Aloft is now available in early access and thanks to Funcom for providing a key so we could test this out. Aloft from developer Astrolabe Interactive, is a co-op sandbox survival game set in a world of floating islands for you to explore, cure and survive. The idea of building a base on a floating island and sailing the skies in search of resources, materials and adventure is certainly intruiging.

Aloft Performance stumbles in Early Access

Holding a stable 30 FPS is proving rather difficult with Aloft in its current state, which you can check out in the video below. Using the lowest graphic settings and enabling dynamic resolution proves challenging after a couple of hours of testing. There is no upscaling available at this moment but we're sure that will come in a future update as this is an early access review.

Even with the struggles the game is not in an unplayable state on Steam Deck. Depending on the demands of textures and environment you can have a fairly enjoyable time but when the performance stumbles and the game stutters it is very jarring. We're sure future updates will address the performance issues. The introduction of upscaling could help massively down the road.

We'll be sure to revisit Aloft as and when future updates roll out, most probably we can compare and contrast performance when the game is fully released.
