Alone in the Dark Steam Deck Gameplay and Performance

I just purchased the game 'Alone in the Dark' on Steam for a hefty price of £45. While I was excited to play the game, I was a bit disappointed to see that the game was quite plagued with performance issues.

The game should be running at a solid 60 plus frames per second on the Steam Deck, but it wasn't. I was running the game without any of the chromatic or depth of field or motion blur, but I noticed that the game still suffered from random frame rate dips that happened for seemingly no reason. This seemed to be an issue across all systems, not just the Steam Deck.

Aside from the random performance issues, the game was at least playable on the Steam Deck and all the controls and mapping worked well, but it was jarring to see the frame rate constantly dipping down. The voice acting was excellent, but some of the facial expressions looked a little off to me. I recognized a couple of the lead characters from some TV series, which was a bit comforting at least.

The game has some good elements here and there, but the performance issues make it hard to recommend it at its current price. The game is perfectly playable, however it's not worth the high price tag. I hope the developers can fix the performance issues and make the game a better experience on the Steam Deck. For now, I would recommend waiting for optimizations or a sale. If you're a diehard fan of the Alone in the Dark series, you may still want to give it a try. You do you.
