Command & Conquer The Ultimate Collection Steam Deck Performance & Black Screen Fixes

With the release of the Command and Conquer classic collection on Steam Deck, we want to be focusing on testing and addressing quirks for each game in the collection.

Starting with the original Command and Conquer, the game runs smoothly out of the gate, and the frame rate, while uncapped, hovers between 40 to 60 frames per second, depending on on-screen activity. The need for control remapping is emphasized for a better gaming experience.

Moving to Command and Conquer Red Alert, the presenter notes that it works flawlessly without compatibility tweaks. The frame rate is again uncapped, ranging from 50 to 60 frames per second during gameplay, with a warning about low disk space that can be ignored.

For Command and Conquer Tiberium Sun and Firestorm, a special DLL override is required, detailed at the end of the video. Once applied, the game runs smoothly at a solid 60 frames per second, maintaining playability.

Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge share similar requirements for a DLL fix to address black menu screens. These games perform well at 800x600 resolution, offering a solid 60 frames per second.

Command and Conquer Renegade, a first-person shooter version of the series, requires no tweaks and supports various video settings. It runs smoothly with full 1280x800 resolution and high-quality settings.

Command and Conquer Generals is noted for requiring some caution as the menu screen may seem unresponsive until tapped. The game runs at 30 frames per second and around 15 watts, providing a good 3 to 4 hours of playtime.

The subsequent games, including Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Kane's Wrath, Red Alert 3, and Uprising, all run smoothly at 1280x800 resolution and ultra settings. However, they are capped at 30 frames per second, but the we assure that it doesn't significantly impact gameplay. The games also introduce various campaigns and new gameplay elements.

Command and Conquer 4, initially unsupported, can be played on Steam Deck with the GE Proton 830. A DLL fix, email login, and acceptance of the User License Agreement are required. Once set up, the game runs smoothly at 1280x800 resolution with ultra settings.
