Although not mentioned in the Sun Wukong update, it appears that the update has enabled Steam Deck users to start playing again with the Standard Proton.
On our first run, it did show an error box regarding EAC file versions but we were still able to play. On subsequent launches, no error was displayed and we have been able to play just fine.
