SteamOS Preview Update 3.5.8 (Flatlined)

The Steam Deck preview channel got a tonne of nice fixes today addressing some issues from the recent 3.5.5 rollout

General Fixes

  • Resolved an issue where changing settings in the desktop partition manager could prevent SD cards from being mounted and visible in Steam.

  • Fixed a bug in desktop mode where dragging a folder onto the desktop incorrectly created shortcuts for every item inside the folder.

Graphics and Performance Enhancements

  • Corrected the performance overlay that was showing GPU clock speed as an instantaneous measurement instead of an average, aligning with SteamOS 3.4.11.

  • Fixed a problem with high noise levels in trackpad pressure sensors, affecting certain configurations.

  • Addressed the issue of incorrect colors (gamma) during Steam In-Home Streaming.

  • Resolved a rare system crash occurring upon game exit.

  • Fixed a color issue in some HDR titles where moving the cursor while closing the game caused incorrect colors in subsequent launches.

  • Improved situations where game frame presentations could be hindered by buffers from Steam or other windows, potentially reducing game stutters.

  • Updated the performance overlay to show frame timings based on their display flip time, rather than GPU rendering completion, when frame limiter or vsync is enabled. More detailed GPU-based timings are still available.

  • Fixed a stuttering issue in games that buffer multiple frames ahead.

  • Implemented various compositor performance improvements.

Overall, these updates aim to enhance the user experience on Steam by improving system stability, graphics performance, and the accuracy of performance metrics.
