The Thaumaturge ROG Ally gameplay & Best Settings

We're excited to be announcing the availability of The Thaumaturge and we'd like to express gratitude to Evolve PR for providing early access to test the game on the ROG Ally. We share our experience playing the game on the ROG Ally, both at 25 and 30 watts plugged in, using the latest AMD drivers with AMD motion fluid frames.

The game, however, doesn't support AMD motion fluid frames, running on Vulcan or another technology instead of DirectX 11 or 12. Unfortunately, the resolution is capped at 900p. Despite these limitations, The Thaumaturge has FSR 3 and frame generation built in.

We recommend running the game on mostly medium settings with high texture and high effects. The effectiveness of FSR 3 depends on the anti-aliasing method used, and surprisingly, FSR 3 doesn't perform well at 1080p, introducing considerable micro-stutter, especially during turn-based fights.

During turn-based fights, across all platforms, including the ROG Ally, there's a noticeable drop in performance, dipping down to 30 frames per second. We suggest that for a more consistent experience, it's better not to use FSR 3. They demonstrate that running the game at 1080p with TSR default scaling quality set to medium provides a more stable experience, hovering around 40 frames per second when the ROG Ally is plugged in at 30 watts.

While we acknowledge the option to dive down to 720p with native scaling or TSR quality on high, we want to highlight that this doesn't eliminate performance dips during battles. TSR handles this slightly better, especially in smoother inside battles, but the overall FPS takes a hit.
