UPDATED March 22, 2023 following patch 4.02 updates.

DirectX 12 has brought a whole host of new updates with integrated mods, new camera angles, and more. The overall quality, lighting effects, and character models are all so much better than the previous generation and it is amazing to look at.

Our recommended settings at this time using DirectX 12 is to hit the medium preset and then set the following:

• Motion Blur - Off

• Blur - Off

• Sharpening - High

• Anti-Aliasing - FSR Quality

• Nvidia Hairworks - Off

• Screen Space Reflections - Low

• Background Characters Low

Leave the others as per the medium preset, and also come into the gameplay settings and set the following:

• Combat camera - Close

• Exploration camera - Close

• Leave the horseback camera at the default

Finally, you want to make sure that you cap the frame rate to 40 on the Steam deck and the Refresh Rate to 40Hz in the Steam Deck Performance menu, and you'll see just how good it looks.
